There are two ways to control foam:

  • Destroy It: Defoaming agents work via one of two methods:
    • Removing foam that has already been generated (Knock-down)
    • Keeping foam from generating again (Hold Down)
  • Prevent It: Antifoamers keep foam from ever appearing in the first place
